These altogether too loud voices…
They talk…
…talk of truth and they talk of freedom, talk of love and they talk of happiness – they talk a whole lot of stuff you see and never at all seem to stop.
On and on they keep on: talk, talk, talk and talk.
<Sigh>
So you won’t shut up? Okay…
When exactly is truth? Who is freedom? How is love? And what does happiness?
Well…?
Do you have answers to the questions, with all the big talk that you keep talking? I dare you to hazard an answer. And at that, one that you will not immediately and simultaneously qualify and thus nullify with time, place and person.
Still talking, are you? Okay…
Who needs truth when it is one that’s relative, who cares about freedom that is so fleeting, who desires a love that is conditional and what can a body do with happiness that is ever ephemeral?
Away from me with your pipe dreams and nights of mist, I want no part in empty words of things that do not exist. I will have none of your lore of death instead I will gladly bury my head in the earth and stuff my ears with muddied dirt.
Yes? And what of it…?
What if you have written your laws on my heart, to what end have you carved a map for your pursuit in my imagination, so you think I am swayed that a yearning after you is etched in my soul and that for a whisper of your embrace I will give all that ever had to call my own?
Yes. I will resist you because you evoke too high a price, you will consume me completely and yet there you stand demanding that I roll the dice?
You’re mad! Be quiet, I say!
Oh but wait…please, please do not turn your face away.
For how to live in a world with no truth, what existence is one which holds no hope of freedom, who can endure a dearth of love and is it possible to continue to breathe without wisps of happiness no matter how faint or short?
You are still talking then?
Well go right on with that talk, talk, talk and talk. Keep hacking away until nothing remains. Your every word is fodder to my crave even as you venture to vanish me away – slay me with intent to save me.
To be sure, you will have it all…in the moment I am everything when I at last am naught.
